[NY] Things to do in Westchester / NY the weekend of Jan 10 - Jan 11, 2015

Before we get into the weekend activities, here is a quick reminder that Broadway Week 2015 is on-going right now. You can now get to see all that Broadway has to offer with this 2-for-1 ticket special!  See Aladdin, Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, to just name of few!

For this weekend Jan 10-11, 2015, we have a few interesting activities going on in the westchester/NY area.

Family Art Workshop @ Neuberger Museum
When: Saturday Jan 10, 2015 1-4pm
Where: Neuberger Museum, Purchase, NY
Details: Get inspired by abstract expressionist painters like Mark Rothko, who used fuzzy, soft fields of color to express emotions without representational shapes.  Visit works by Rothko and other abstract expressionists, then create your own work of art using watercolors and oil pastels. Art experiences for the whole family, with conversations and hands-on workshops for kids tots to ten, accompanied by an adult. Free admission to the museum for all program participants.

Forest Magic @ Greenburgh Nature Center
When: Saturday Jan 10, 2015 2pm
Where: 99 Domore Rd, Scarsdale, NY
Details: Celebrate the magic of the forest as we scout the woods for fairies, trolls, and gnomes. Hear some mythical lore, build fairy and troll houses, and more. Costumes are encouraged. Members $5/person, Non-members $8/person

Family Art - Hibernator's Den @ Wave Hill Garden
When: Saturday Jan 10, 2015 10am-1pm
Where: Wave Hill Garden, Bronx, NY
Details: Get to know your local hibernators through sleepy tales of the season. Then make your own furry bear, bat, toad or hedgehog mask, or fashion a dreamy, woodsy home. PJ’s welcome! Free, and admission to the grounds is free until noon.

Winter Walk @ Greenburgh Nature Center
when: Sunday Jan 11, 2015 1pm
Where: 99 Domore Rd, Scarsdale, NY
Details: Bring your gloves and scarf to come explore with a naturalist. Take an easy walk to study winter life and learn what animals do to survive the cold. Members $5/person, Non-members $8/person

Dorodango Workshop: Make a Shiny Dirt Ball @ Rye Nature Center
When: Saturday Jan 10, 2015 3pm
Details: We'll show you how to these traditional Japanese crafts using nothing but dirt you dig up in your yard. For ages 4 through 104.  $5/members, $8/non-members.

Half Day for Half Pints Open House @ Rye Arts Center
When: Sunday Jan 11, 2015 1pm-2:30pm
Where: Rye Arts Center
Details: Ring in the start of The New Year with your preschooler and come learn about our Half Day for Half Pints Program.  At our Open House, you will have the chance to meet the teachers and learn more about The Rye Arts Center’s “creative arts” immersion program.  Visual arts, music, movement, and storytelling are part of the day, as well as pick-up and drop-off from participating schools.  Information packets on the program will be available that day.
